INTRODUCTION

FE-Sizer is a valuable engineering tool for flow meter sizing software to size and select head-type flow meters in closed conduits. It is flexible, easy-to-use, and complete with pull-down menus and pop-up pick lists. The software includes meter tables, material tables and pipe data tables aiding selection of meter applications. Extensive built-in warnings flag potential application and data entry errors. FE-Sizer Version 4 has added features to make it compliant with Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10 operating platforms.

FEATURES

FE-Sizer has been fully upgraded to be 100% compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit Windows platforms. Compatible platforms are Windows Vista, 7, and 10 + server editions. Upgrades include the following added features:

  • More powerful toolbar - added tool icons for saving and retrieving individual tag number files as well as tag data from project database files.
  • Compatable with Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10 + server platforms.
  • Added stability of software operating under 32-bit and 64-bit Windows platforms.
  • Independantly selectible units per input data.
  • Selectable truetype fonts and page margins for all printouts.
  • Properties table that includes over 300 fluid components!

These features make the easiest orifice sizing software even easier to use.

FLEXIBLE

Calculates bore, flow rate or differential pressure for virtually any type of head-type primary flow device. Also allows the user to enter discharge coefficients for re-rating calibrated meter runs. Unit systems can be changed on-the-fly without changing existing data or recalculating the sizing parameter.

RECORD KEEPING

FE-Sizer prints either calculation sheets or orifice data sheets from an easy-to-use menu system. In addition, the user can select to print to a printer or electronic file. The program saves fluid, sizing and datasheet information to disk in a retrievable electronic format making future calculation and datasheet updates a snap. Data records are easily recalled from a tag list box that displays all tags. FE-Sizer simplifies the maintenance of all your orifice meter data for flow measurement.

SIZING METHODS

Calculates bore, flow or differential pressure using the following fluids:

  • Ideal and non-ideal gases - volumetric flow (base & actual flowing conditions).
  • Vapors - mass flow.
  • Viscous and non-viscous liquids - volumetric flow (base & actual flowing conditions) and mass flow.

Select gas and vapor sizing equations from either pressure-volume-temperature (PVT) or density form. Liquid flow sizing equations may be selected from either specific gravity or density form. FE-Sizer includes "critical-drop" flow and bore formulas for sizing restrictive flow devices for gas, vapor and liquid fluids.

FE-Sizer also calculates bore, flow or differential pressure for restriction orifices and bore or flow for critical flow orifices.

STANDARDS

All sizing equations used in FE-Sizer are based on the following industry standards:

  • ASME MFC-3M (1989)-Measurement of Fluid Flow in Pipes Using Orifice, Nozzle and Venturi.
  • ASME MFC-3M (2004)-Measurement of Fluid Flow in Pipes Using Orifice, Nozzle and Venturi
  • ASME MFC-14M (2003)-Measurement of Fluid Flow Using Small Bore Precision Orifice Meters.
  • ANSI/API 2530-AGA Report 3 (both 1985 & 1992)-Orifice Metering of Natural Gas and Other Related Hydrocarbon Fluids - Part 3 Natural Gas Applications.
  • ISO-5167 (1991)-Measurement of Fluid Flow by Means of Orifice Plates, Nozzles and Venturi Tubes Inserted in Circular Cross-section Conduits Running Full.
  • ISO-5167-2 (2003)-Measurement of Fluid Flow by Means of Pressure Differential Devices Inserted in Circular Cross-section Conduits Running Full - Part 2: Orifice Plates.
  • ISO-5167-3 (2003)-Measurement of Fluid Flow by Means of Pressure Differential Devices Inserted in Circular Cross-section Conduits Running Full - Part 3: Nozzle and Venturi Nozzles.
  • ISO-5167-4 (2003)-Measurement of Fluid Flow by Means of Pressure Differential Devices Inserted in Circular Cross-section Conduits Running Full - Part 4: Venturi Tubes.
  • ISO-15377 (2007)-Measurement of Fluid Flow by Means of Pressure Differential Devices - Guidelines for the specification of orifice plates, nozzles and Venturi tubes beyond the scope of ISO-5167.
  • ASME PTC 6 (2004)-ASME Throat-tap Venturi Flow Nozzles.
  • ASME PTC 19.5 (2004)-ASME Flow Measurment - Performance Test Code

METER STYLES

ORIFICE PLATES - Concentric, eccentric, segmental, small bore honed pipe, integral, and conic types. All tap styles.

FLOW NOZZLES - ASME long radius wall & throat tap nozzles, ISA 1932, and venturi-nozzles.

VENTURI - Machined inlet, rough cast inlet, and fabricated sheet metal with 7 or 15 degree outlet cones.

WEDGE METERS - ABB Wedge, ABB Integral Wedge, and R.W. Miller Generic Wedge.

LOW LOSS FLOW TUBES - Lo-Loss® (Wyatt-Badger) and Universal Venturi Tubes - UVTTM (BIF, Inc.).

SINGLE SCREEN FORMAT

Intuitive single screen format displays all pertinent data required for sizing and selecting flow orifices. This screen format organizes data into six segments and eliminates paging through multiple screens to check fluid and meter data.

FACTORS

Includes special sizing factors important for flow meter corrections. Included factors are:

  • Drain/vent hole corrections.
  • Manometer corrections.
  • Water vapor corrections.
  • Two phase flow - saturated liquid and saturated vapor factors.

PROPERTY CORRELATIONS

Reliable fluid property correlations to provide accurate property estimates are available to the user when required. Property correlations include:

  • ASME Steam Tables (1967 IPC Formulation for Industrial Use) for steam and water properties.
  • AGA Report No. 8, 2nd Edition (2nd Printing July 1994) Compressibility Factors of Natural Gas and Other Related Hydrocarbon Gases.
  • Redlich-Kwong state equations  for gases and vapors.
  • Soave-Redlich-Kwong state equations for gases and vapors.
  • Benedict-Web-Rubin state equations for gases and vapors, and the
  • Hankinson-Brobst-Thomson (HBT) technique for estimating properties for compressed liquids.
  • Fluid components library with over 300 fluid components.
  • Mixture estimating methods allowing up to 20 component mixtures of gases, vapors, and liquids.
